  • 302 oil pressure sending unit failing

Baffles me. First unit I bought (store brand $12 autozone) was installed and it gave me a reading. Then it stopped hours later... Today I replaced it with a Oreilly's store brand BWD $12 unit and on first start up it worked. I killed it cause I realized I had forgotten to re-install a spark plug wire. After connecting (~1 min lapse), I cranked her up. No oil gauge... These electric sending units prone to shitting on you so easily? Is there's common fix for this? Very frustrated seeig how this is 2 units in 3 weeks.

Ground the wire to test the guage.

I had the same problem with my autmoter electric oil presure gauge. After about 4-5 sending units, I just replaced it with a mechanical unit, problem solved.

Ya sorry I forgot to add that. I have done that. I know it works.

Trying to avoid that. I already had to put an outside tach on the column. Idk where I'd put a single oil pressure.

My factory gauge is acting up as well. If you are having this much trouble out of oriley electronics, then I will just go to napa.

I does. I thought the same "oh shit" moment. Hooked up a mech gauge and I had plenty of pressure.

That is always a scary moment, when it goes to 0 and you are killing the car, yelling oh shit, oh shit. My gauges have seen better days in my coupe I ended up putting a mechanical water in the car, because it never went past 1/4 of the way. PM me if you want some ideas on a cheap but good route to go with aftermarket gauges.
