that "ear" is super effin thick iron, you think there is a chance it'd break off because i removed .2" off the front of it?

(very serious question btw, before the "if your the expert" post come flowing in), seems a few folks on corral have done this without incident, but I def. don't want to put anyone (including myself) in harms way. just seems crazy since those effer's are incredibly thick and hard as hell.

For reference, they're cast steel.
I don't think they'd break, in fact - I'm sure they will NOT break.
The problem is that, there's no way you can get the two surfaces parallel with any kind of hand tool. Having said that, have you ever tried to keep a bolt tight that's clamping down on two surfaces that are NOT parallel?
The likelyhood of them coming loose is a lot greater, THAT is what i'd be worried about. For the 50$ or so that it takes to get the right stuff, it seems like money well spent.
