  • Anyone ever ground down the ears on pre 87 spindles?

Just my luck, the Strange shocks won't fit on the ears of the spindles since I am running pre-87 spindles. Didn't realize this is a problem since the Lakewoods fit either. So now I am going to need to grind off .2" off the ears to get these to fit. Anyone done this? How vital is it that it be perfect? Thinking about doing it with a grinder.

I just really don't want to have to modify another set of spindles for the Aerospace fronts. As long as they are close what would be the harm in a slightly less then square surface? Seems like the bracket on the shock would "square it up"

if its not square, the alignment may change as the strut may not be able to hold. You could have them milled, but that seems like more hassle than spindles.

you can also change the caster from side to side based on how you grind it

don't you think between one side still being a machined finish and taking my time i can get it close enough, i've read where others have done it and it worked, i just don't want to do something that will possibly hurt others or myself.

It may work, but I would not.

I thought the only thing different on the 87 and up spindles was the bolt holes where oblong. but idk could be wrong.

nope, the "ears" on the early v8 spindles were .2" thicker then the 87-93's.

.2 is not very much at all. I would give it a shot...

I did it, it was a HUGE bitch, but it's done and it seems to be perfect.

shieeett, i just turn wrenches, anybody can do it. most stuff is self explanatory after you dive into it, just nuts/bolts and parts, installation is reverse of removal. i think you sell yourself short or over estimate me!

There's no way I would leave it like that, that's a problem waiting to happen (at 120MPH I might add).
