  • 2.3 in a sand rail..no spark....need some help

I bought a 93 2.3 dual plug motor from a guy here on the board. I saw the motor run before I bought it. I got the ECM, all acc, and the engine harness. I got it all bolted up to the sand rail today and hooked all the harness back up. I have 45psi of fuel at the rail so I know thats good but I have no spark from the two coil packs. I was told I should have power at the two outside wires on both coils but I dont. The starter will kick the motor over but no start. I dont know if this matters but the fuel is a complete stand alone system and not going through the computer.....Any ideas? The only thing I dont have hooked up is the Alt.

The computer is going to try to control fuel and spark. You say the fuel system is not going through the computer? How would that work?

the coils have to have a crank/run 12v source to operate. the computer does not control this wire

that comment confused me too. maybe the pump isnt controlled by the ecc, I can see this.

I have an in line pump that runs on a toggle switch. So if the comp does not feed power to both coil packs, which of the three wires (on each pack) do i give 12 volts?

well...progress...kinda, I applied power to the CCRM on the red/limegreen-red wire and got 12 volts to the coils but still no spark leaving either pack.

did you get that power train control module as well? it controls damn near all the motor if it goes nothing works...

ummm...lol, is that the little black box mounted on the fender? if so yeah, its called a constant control relay module (CCRM)

Well, its giving power to the coils like it should. I guess what Im not sure of is how I get the crankshaft pos sensor to tell the coils to give spark.....I know that did not make too much sense but I hope you got it.

sounds to me as if you havent powered the pcm. If it isnt live, you will have no spark. You need to investigate the ccrm wiring more in depth (just my guess with the limited info)

I thought the same thing, I just got back inside from making sure I had power on the red going into the PCM. It shows 12 volts. Is the red the only one that should have power going to it? I also made sure it had a solid ground. Do I need to connect the other two plugs that are usually in the kick panel to anything? I have 12 volts on the red wire on the green plug as well.

if anything like the v8 ccrms in 96-04, the pcm is powered by it. What harness is it? Do you have a KAM wire? does the ccrm click when you power up?

I have the factory 93 banger harness, I do not hear the ccrm click at all. I will double check the ground going to it being its not bolted to anything right now. It's just sitting on top of the motor. I'm not real sure what the KAM wire is.

I couldnt help myself. I went out to check the CCRM ground...I have a pinout diagram that shows pin 15 (black wire to be ground) but I have 12v on that wire....hmmm Pin 13 (start/run)...When I give that 12v I get power to the coils. Im a little confused why my ground has power on it?
