  • Mobil 1 vs Amsoil

I've used mobil 1 for years but I've read on a few forums that mobil 1 isn't as good as it used to be. Is Amsoil really as good as they think they are? And these are the two oils I have narrowed down too. So I don't need any other suggestions. Thanks

    Amsoil is basically the best.

Pennzoil Platinum is basically tied with Mobile 1.

What is the difference between the two oils? If both are fully synthetic, then why is Amsoil so much better? I'm putting this in my new mustang and my stang will be sitting more then driven so I'll probably get to the months before the mileage when it comes to when the oil has to be change. So I want really good oil in my engine.

Over time, oils break down and oxidize. This causes it to loose it's rated viscosity.

Amsoil is the best because it breaks down the slowest. Some diesel rigs go 1-200,000 miles between oil changes with amsoil.

are you planning on sticking with the Ford recommended oil change intervals of 10k?

i dont. I change mine at 5k. It just makes me feel better. But then again, for 8 quarts i stick with motorcraft.
in the end, i probably still dont spend as much as if i bought 8 quarts of amsoil and only changed it 10k

            ps. voted amsoil.

What do you drive and how long do you go between oil changes? 99% of the time Mobil 1 will do the job just fine unless you plan going 15k+ miles on an oil change.

People say Mobil 1 is bad because UOA results show high iron wear vs other synthetic oils. There's debate if these "wear numbers" really mean anything.

Amsoil is hands down the better of the 2 but I use Mobil 1 in all of my work trucks simply because it can be bought at Wal-Mart 24/7.

Like I said more then likely I won't hit the 10k mark for at least over a year. This is not my daily driver, just my toy. I want an oil where I'm at peace of mind of it just sitting more then driven.

I am old school, I prefer Mobil 1 15w50 in my mustang. I have nothing against amsoil, I just like mobil 1 personally.

Check out the forum on www.bobistheoilguy.com

More oil info on there than you probably ever wanted to know.

Mobil 1 will do it, if you want peace of mind get Mobil 1 extended performance.

I've seen that mobil 1 extended performance at walmart but only in single quarts. Do you know somewhere that sells it in the 5 quart?
