alot of variables to take into consideration when a motor blows up after a tune is done and if it didnt blow up on the dyno then i say its good.

Ok 3 valve had check engine light on and I checked codes on it it said cam was over advanced which is what most 3 valves read with big cams and I'm not real sure on how to explain how Travis turned it off but car made 355 with andy tune and Travis retuned it and car put down 380 and ran awesome no trying to die everytime I pulled up to a light ? And as far as my cobra goes he was supposed to check tune and make sure eveything was good and I told matt to make sure he looked at fuel on it and make sure it wasn't goin lean cause car was tuned by manny at hpp and they couldn't tell me what tunes were on it. Needless to say motor blew up. Cobra had 2.2 kb with 6lb lower and 3.5 upper no spray no bull crap car made 540 wheel supposed to be a " real safe " tune. I'm just saying what happen to me. Want a real tune go see Travis, more power and runs safe.

Whole story is confusing. He tuned it and it was too safe and Travis made it faster? Then it burned up and you got a cobra or the cobra burned one piston? I'm sure you checked compression and the piston wasn't already fried before, right? Stock bottom end, fuel system, how much boost? So many variables you're leaving out. If you're not a mechanic or a tuner, I don't see how you can point the finger. Guess you gotta blame someone, so, if it helps you sleep at night...

Good numbers man. Andy knows how to tune cars. He tuned mine a while back and it ran awesome till I turned the boost up too high on pump gas. lol My car drove perfect crusing and at WOT at the boost level it was tuned for.

So, I've been really debating if I should even reply to this thread. I am just going to try and give some details to these stories.

Actually Andy tuned my buddy's Cobra it went lean and now needs a new motor...

Aaron - That is not true - The car received a new car check over. (75 or 100$) It was put on the dyno, datalogged it, and I verified air fuel. Everything seemed to check out well.

1 post cause I just made a new account from dfwstangs to here. And yeah I have little room to talk cause he f'd up the heads and came tune on my 3 valve and traded it in on a cobra that I'm having to put a motor in cause he can't tune. Cobra has only has 28k on it pistons shouldn't fry on a motor with that many miles.

Stanton - I touched the heads and cam 3v - 3times - Twice while you owned it and once after you traded it in. The first time the car made 353whp or so if I remember correct. A few weeks later you decided to put on a GT500 throttle body and underdrive pullies. After that tune it made 377whp I also dialed in the driveability and coast down that you told me about. That same week you posted on DFWStangs on how happy you were with the car. (I didn't dig up the post but I do remember it clearly)

I'm not sure what you have been told. I was not fired from Gearheads. I haven't been giving away free tunes. I use different dynos in different parts of DFW to make it more convenient for my customers.

How long did you drive it from when I checked it out? to when it hurt itself? A lot of things can happen to a car that can lead to it blowing up. Racing with low fuel level. Back to back highway pulls, that can cause the car to heat soak. Racing to 170mph on the highway can and will generate extreme EGTs that cause engine damage. Intercooler water pump failure. Many different things that are uncontrollable by the tuner.

Andy tuned my pile on a few occasions and it ran good......however i had the tune redone by travis and picked up power under the curve and drivability was better. A good friend of mine is running one of his tunes right now and is happy with it.

I don't have any animosity towards Gearheads or Travis. For the most part I enjoyed my time there. DFW has over 6.5 million people in it, not counting all the surrounding cities. There is plenty of work for Gearheads and plenty of work for me.
