  • 03/04 shortblock to a 97 cobra

Looks like this is gonna be my summer project. Looks like the cheapest and most efficient route. What will it take to swap the 03 block in and make it work with my vortech? What modifications are needed?

Yes, I know it will end up with lower compression, but with steep gears it should be alright. Not to mention that if I'm feeling ambitious enough I may ditch the vortech for a single turbo setup. We shall see on that one.

    03/04 shortblock
    60lb injectors
New fuel pump ( haven't put to much thought in it)
    Cx racing ic or meth
    Promotion t-45

    Looking for 550-600rw

If I recall the 97 cobra is a 4v, should be pretty much pull it out and drop the new one in.

They are the same except yours is an aluminum block and the 03/04's are iron, other than that exactly the same I think.

You'll need a bigger head unit on that weezy lil blower of yours.

Haha. It will be fine. Once I can put timing back in, it will do alright.

              Maybe turbo

You will need a bigger head unit for the best chance to reach your goal numbers.

Not really bro. Once you drop that 03/04 motor into the car which has better heads and a low comp motor, that means the blower will have more volume to fill, which means you will have to spin it past its normal operating speeds pushing it past effiency level. The blower will quickly wear out from overspinning, well that is after all hassle of dealing with belt slip for awhile from running the small pulley.

Oh yeah, I forgot one other thing, it will be pig slow with a low comp mod motor and a weezy centi blower. So you will have done all that work only to be sloooowwww. lol.

Hmm. Alright. I'll look into it. If I'm gonna spend $1000 for a ysi then I should probably go turbo.

If you are thinking 1k is expensive, turbo will blow your mind!

Yeah but I would sell all my vortech stuff.

I could probably get $1300-1700 out of the kit without maf/injectors etc.

Still won't be enough for a kit and everything else you will need.

My suggestion would be find a nice, gently used KB/Whipple on SVTP for about $1500 bucks and put that on to make a reliable 600rw. Don't worry about making "big power" cuz it's WAY too damn expensive for you right now.
