I don't know that what you're wanting to do is 'bad' or 'good' as far as tire selection.. we've all done exactly what you're doing, some worse than others.

Rest assured, what or however they test tires isn't necessarily the problem - but using a tire designed for a 60HP VW is the problem. Somewhere there's a picture of Big Daddy's coupe on the top end with a serious FRONT tire distortion problem, allegedly those 165R radials.

The other thing, Me, personally.. I don't buy those tires for anything 'serious' any more, but done it many times in the past. Now, I have front runners (MT's). Regardless, I'm not sure how a bias ply THIN wall tire is better than a radial for 'speed', but I'll leave that up to the tire experts at MT.

Also, food for thought - KidCapri had some NEW tires on his car that had a few passes on them. He was driving through the pits, or something to that effect and noticed a 'problem' - he could feel the front end moving up and down at slow speeds. The cords had seperated on the tires and it was out of round by 1.5" or so. This was discovered AT the track on a pretty damn fast car.

Well said. I had some Daytona 165Rs or some shit and it would vibrate a lil at speeD... The bfg's cured all that (much better tires), but again I wanted a radial. MH makes some bad ass radial skinnies now that I have on my Vette skinnies and they are rated to over 200 mph. I've been 170+ on them and they were smooth as glass. I think they are about 150 a pop and def worth it, esp since they will last forever as long as u don't skid on em from locking up the brakes...
