Texas Law States "The tailpipe must direct the exhaust fumes out from under the passenger compartment."

So as long as they are far enough back....they are legal.

      B&B

Miller quoted me more than 100 bucks over what B&B charged and a healthy attitude to go with it

Mine (pictured above) passed inspection. If you can make them at least reach the axle, there is some discretion on the part of the inspector. Technically, they should go beyond the axle. And if not, exit the side. It just depends on the inspector.

        Weird.

Miller Muffler charged me $60 out the door to remove the stock 2.25" cat back, then make a new 2.5" section from H pipe flange to the Flowmasters, and make the turn downs. 40 minute wait time.

It was a bolt on part that required nothing more than removing converter bolts, removing converter, putting new one on. Quoted 225 or 250 because the radiator and alternator needed to be removed and when politely informed that neither were even close to being in the way.......that's what they do, that's what they charge, too much for ya?

B&B charged an hour labor which is still high but acceptable

            Prices went way up after.
Yep, same place. Hector ran the place with the option to buy it, but ran it in to the ground doing all those cash jobs for next to nothing. He also lost a lot of customers by the company he kept around the shop.

I've known the new owner for many years and he's a good guy. He went in, cleaned the place up, and basically cold called on every shop and dealership in town to rebuild a customer base. He has his brother and another guy running the place and they stay busy. I would think prices on generic welding jobs could be negotiable depending on how you approach it. Like any business though, they've got to make money to survive.

I called Kinneys off Rufe Snow in North Richland Hills. They quoted $30 to weld them, provided of course there isn't any extra fab work needed to hang mounts or anything like that.

I know NRH isn't exactly in Grapevine, but neither is Garland or Plano like others were saying LOL

I've used Kinney's for all my exhaust work on any of the cars I've owned and they've always been top notch for quality.

Tried to go by A&B yesterday because I was actually in the area. Nice guys for sure. Turns out the tailpipes (and mufflers that are on the car) are from a 98 GT and won't go on my 96 without a little bit of fabrication. I'm probably just going to buy a new kit and bolt it on.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

on a side note: anyone want to buy a Flowmaster cat-back for a 98GT?

Sounds about right, for the price Hector was doing side jobs for im pretty positive he was just pocketing all the cash. Towards the end too there was more and more dudes hanging around that obviously didnt work there

Hopefully itll work out for him since hes putting the work in. Alot of the shops around here will negotiate too, but its Irving, most of them do $10/weld, slightly more if some custom work needs to be done.

Exactly. Pocket the majority of the cash sales, don't invoice them, and hope or not care if anything becomes of it.
