  • getting tuned on tuesday/ and battery drain?

my vert hunts for idle i assume it the computer in the 94 having trouble with h/c/i swap. so i am getting it tuned next week and i'm excited.

also i seem to have something pulling current as the battery goes dead after about 2 days. how do i go about tracking this down? thanks gents.

    god bless.

I would recommend getting the fox body style tps on there and then getting it tuned.

I have a 90mm tb with the fox tps and still have the 95 computer it does not hunt for idle. with the 95 style tps it would still hunt sometimes with the old set-up, my new cam is bigger and it idles better than before.

hook a test light to the ground post and the ground terminal with the positive side still hooked up to the battery and ground disconnected. Then pull fuses one at a time till you find the one that turns the light off. This will tell you what area the draw is coming from.

Who's doing the tune? I'm curious to see what your numbers are. My '95 has TB, 80mm mass air, alum heads, GT40 intake, exhaust, and 1.7 rockers (stock cam), and put down 260/307. She runs/idles/drives perfectly.

Why does everyone have such a hard time with getting the idle under control on SN95's. Follow the correct setup procedure and add some timing.

could you break down the "chasing down battery drain" into really stupid terms please? it would help me tons!

going with andy "prime tuning" i bet we will be pretty close as to numbers, as i have the gt ironheads,a tfs stg1 cam, rpmII intake, shortys, xpipe, mass air and such. i will post the numbers next week.

Andy actually went through mine on the dyno to see that the last guy had done a proper job. You'll like Andy. Very knowledgable and helpful.

When did it begin happening? Was it after any certain mods, or did it just appear recently?

oh man that is good news. as i am not sure how happy i am with the first place i took it. i will make sure and ask what was done the first time. (i assume CEL turned off and timing messed with) we shall see.

                  god bless.

                    1. unhook ground (-) wire from battery

                    2. attach one side of test light to battery (-) terminal and the other side to the wire you unhooked. The test light should light up.

3.Start pulling fuses in the fuse box one at a time untill the light turns off, meaning no more draw.

That will tell you which circuit is draining your battery. Also push the switch in for the door you have open when pulling fuses when checking the test light. The courtesy lights will put a draw on there and make it seem like the test light wont ever turn off. I would check the lights on the visors to see if they are on when the flaps are down. That kept draining the battery on one of my old mustangs.

no, it has never been how i feel it should. when coming to a stop, once stopped the rpms sit over 1000.

Have you recently cleaned out the idle bypass valve? It's the long cylinder shaped valve attached to the throttle body. Just take it off, take it apart and clean it out. If it has alot carbon build up in it it could disrupt your idle and make your car do things like you have mentioned.

I think you'll find he's very thorough and doesn't mind answering questions (I had a lot of them).

Probably something to do with the cam. 94/95 5.0's need more LSA to keep them happy.

Mine has 238@ .050 duration with some decent .570ish lift and 112LSA. It idles just fine@ 775-825rpm, and it's my daily driver. You need to fix the battery drain issue first because if the voltage is low then the car wil run rich and could possibly cause some surging.
