I know you can fit a 10" wide wheel in there, a 10.5" wheel could be pushing it.

Lots of people (even some on here) fit a 10.5 wheel and a 315. 275 is good, but 315 requires a little BFH. <--oxymoron?

You can! Is it optimal? No. But it's doable for sure. What is the wheels back spacing/offset?

Do you have quad shocks still? Do you care about beating the inner wheel wells with a hammer? And the wheels measurements will dictate whether you can have them widened, generally they only widen the inner side of the wheel not the face.

im asking this question because im debating whether or not to mini tube the car to get a fatter tire, this is just a street car so i dont really need anything excessively fat

Are you looking for a drag setup/dr's ? or just more traction with a wider street tire?

Prob 275. I ran 275/45/17s on my 88 and I had to remove the quads and do about 5min of clearancing.
