  • Front Seal Pt2.....................

I might be doing it wrong as I just got done replacing front seal
with brand new one, Still leaks..
    Tearing it down again
Pulled old one out/cover on-completely eaten up by the crankshaft
Will try same approach as I hate the complete teardown.
    Tips, thoughts are appreciated

This is the new seal installed 2 weeks ago, I pressed it in as far it could go of course w/o busting TC

    Bad seal removed.........

Is it leaking between the seal and timing cover? If so , apply silicone around the seal and press it to the timing cover. I did that once and it worked for me.

thats why the seal is painted. you should not have to. The balancer may need a wear sleeve

Yep, as long as there are no deep gouges in the cover no silicone needed. If the old seal was chewed up from riding on a rough surface the balancer would be your issue.

The little spring is staying on the inside lip of the seal correct?

Take a pic of the balancer seal seating surface. I always pack wheel bearing grease
into the grove where the spring rides inside the seal. 2 reasons, it lubes the seal and acts
like a damper to keep the spring from jumping off.

Also the pic shows some rust and rough surface. If pitting is not a problem the shine it up with some crocus cloth...

you can buy a balancer repair sleeve or "micro sleeve" as some call them. Fel pro timing cover gasket kits come with them in the "sleeve n seal" kit too.

When I changed the front seal on my 331, i noticed that the crank snout was out of alignment as well. Very similar to your pick above. I thought that the cover was not aligned properly as well. It did however seal and not leak.

My next track event the crankshaft snapped. When I disassembled the engine, the crank snapped right behind the front bearing cap.

Anyway.......this is why the crank snout was so far out of alignment with the timing cover seal......the bearings were wearing out.

I am not saying that is what your problem is.....but something to think about.

I think his pic is misleading. HOWEVER, if his is out of alignment, it is probably due to the mexican block not having timing cover dowels

Could be......I would realign it then. With it being that far off, he will wear that seal out.

Thanks for the responses. As for the Sleeve repair, I'm confident that if I try something like that I can make it worse(challenged skills).
Probably my pics are not the best showing the alignment or lack of-It looks ok,
I think that the Milodon oil pan would not align with it as it looks that it does, of course my non-expert opinion.

                            Ordered this one today

This is the "new" seal already chewed on the bottom

Well I'm disappointed in myself that I overlooked this Piss a shit balancer
I think this is what's chewing up my seals.

                            TC looks ok
