  • Restore headlights or just buy new?

Kind of a two part question.
Does the headlight restoration kits that you can buy really work as good as they say they do? If they do, is it really worth the effort and time or just better to buy new ones. Mine have been 'fogged' over since I bought the car and I'm getting to the point I can't stand it anymore. If it weren't for my fog lights I wouldn't be able to see very far in front of me at night.

It worked good on my truck but it only lasted about 3 months before it started hazing again. May try clear coating them to protect them after cleaning them up. I gave up and bought new ones after they started hazing again.

Just buy some, they will fade again everytime...its a waste of time. Buy some aftermarket if you are looking to save money.

Nothing will make them look new again, at least not for long. I've always just bought new lights.

That's kind of what I figured. I just wanted to make sure before going out and buying new ones. Thanks!

The 3M KIT (drill adapter with sandpaper and buffer) works well and lasts about a year before it begins to show signs of yellowing but the lights still look decent.

This may be a dumb question, but why does it seem like Mustang headlights get hazy more often than others?

Because mustangs are made with cheap parts that break, haze, and fall apart

Just buy new ones, My wifes old escape, had started to yellow. I did the 3m kit, and yes it helped them a ton, but within 6 months they looked worse, and that was with a sealer. No more expensive then they are, I would just buy new ones.

Just depends how far gone they are IMO.

I wetsanded, buffed, waxed and sealed mine and they have held up a long time. Given my car does not see much sunlight being parked in my garage for the most part.

If you already have all the supplies it is pretty cheap/easy to just restore them. With a little bit of masking tape you don't even need to remove them from the car. (If you decide to use a buffer.) Just plan on having to rewax them if your car sees a lot of sunlight.

Aftermarket lights aren't a bad idea either but they don't always fit great.

Thanks guys. I think I found some that I'm just going to buy since my car is my daily driver it sees a lot of sunlight and I don't want to have to keep restoring them.
