The black sears ones in their professional line are decent.

Whatever compressor you settle on, get one that is belt driven if it's going to be in the same room you are working.

Picked one up from Lowes a couple years ago. I think it is a 60gal, Campbell Hausfeld. Works pretty well and keeps up even when I use the die grinder constantly. Think that was around $450 when I bought it.

As stated, Sears and northern have some decent ones. My opinion, if you are looking for something that can keep up with some heavy use, DO NOT go for those direct drive, oil-less ones. My brother had one of those from Home Depot I think it was. Noisy as hell, and that thing screamed for mercy every time we used it. It got down to where that thing would kick on, when it WOULD kick on, run for maybe 5 minutes, then shut off. We would have to wait for it to cool down, then pray it would fire up again.

I would look at something no smaller than 60gal, belt driven, 220v. If you don't have a 220 plug in the garage, I am sure you could add one, or have an electrician come out and add one.

Just went to go look at that one. It's $480 right now which is a great price. I'm going to ask lowes if they can set up a 220v in my garage and how much it will cost

I can run the die grinder constantly and it will keep up. Of course the RPMs do drop a little, but not enough to worry about. Its not bad for the price, and we have used the living shit out of it the last 3 years.

You can get an upright 60gal Ingersol Rand @ tractor supply for $600. Less if you snag one of their coupons.

If your breaker box is in the garage it is real simple to add a 30 amp breaker and a outlet for the compressor.

If all you ever want to do is take off suspension parts, I'd just consider an electric impact.

If you're planning to paint a car, do bodywork, or sandblast, then you need a pretty badass compressor to keep up. I would say minimum 15cfm. My Ciasons is 19cfm and we work it pretty hard sometimes especially with the sandblaster.

Or if you decide on something at Lowe's or HD, go to your local Post Office and ask for a "change of address packet." Inside are all kinds of coupons including a 10% off coupon for Lowe's (a VERY FEW times I've gotten Home Depot coupons instead).

Just a heads-up for anyone who may have forgotten about that one.
