  • heater core

I have a 01 sliverrado with a 6cyl is there some kind of quick release on the heater core the part that broke was plastic? looking at the new core i didnt see that. if so do you need a special tool?

No they make heater core tools but they probably wont work on those quick connects. I bought some online and they didnt fit my '01 Suburban. I broke off the old ones and ordered new ones from rockauto.com when I ordered the heater core.

By the way, I will NEVER replace a heater core in one of the trucks again, total and complete pain in the ass.

Im lost, did you replace the heater core or are they leaking? Whats the problem?

You can get them off using some channel locks on the clear plastic pieces that stick out on the ends. If they are old though then good luck, you will probably end up breaking them.

I keep thinking yours is like my suburban but my connections are T's because they route water to the rear heater core for the rear heater.

Can you not just use hose and clamps? Just break the connector all the way to get it off.

Here ya go, I found this online and this is how you get it off. Squeeze those tabs and kinda push and pull the hose and it should pop off.

I think the chevys will use the tools similar to releasing the AC connectors. That is what I used, it was the largest tool on the little assortment rack I had.

                      DON

Oh Im sorry, your right. My '01 Suburban uses a different type connector than the silverados. I assumed they were the same but they are different. Yeah you have to tools similar to the fuel line disconnects.
