  • New (to me) cobra, loss of power.

    So I just picked up my first terminator today. I got it from a buddy that hasn't had it long. His daily blew up, so he needed some money and used the cobra for that. Anyways, I met him today about 6 hours from my house and picked it up from him. Shortly after I left, about 35 miles, the car sounded like the rev limiter had just been brought down to about 1200 rpm. I got out and looked around and everything looked ok. So I shut the car off and turned it right back on. Good as new. I drove it about 30 more miles, filled it up and then drove it the rest of the way back to my house with no problems.

    Major mods are as follows:

    2.6L KB pullied for 18lbs
    tuned by HBH in Maryland

    car made 628 rwhp when tuned last. I'm new to the modular game, so any help would be great.

    Another question is that when at idle the fuel pressure surges from 22-24 psi, and it also surges right around 30 psi under light load (cruising at steady speed) But when I actually give it throttle, it jumps right up to 39-40 psi. Unfortunately there isn't an A/F gauge in it yet. I know from my pushrod days that the fuel pressure is normally set at 40 psi, I'm assuming that it's ok for it to be there under load. The fuel system has been upgraded, but is still a returnless style system.

      How big of a pain are they going to be to change? Last ones I changed were in my fox, lol.

                you need to datalog it that will make it easy to find the problem it sounds like it could be a pegged mass air meter, bad alternator or a fuel issue

                  Lol first thing to check if you dont have a CEL is your plugs.

                    Thanks for all of the responses. And just to put it out there, there is no check engine light. Is there anyway to check to see if it is the FRPS? And what type of plugs are reccomended at that boost level, gap? Thanks again.

                      Put some NGK BR7EF's gap them around .025 or what ever they are right out of the box. Your fuel pressure shouldn't surge like that at all. Your FPDM could be giving you issues, a pump could be going out or fuel line could have come off one of the pumps, Fuel pressure regulator. Can't really tell with out data logs to see what it's doing.

                          No, the car came out of maryland. All of the work was done by HBH in maryland. The thing that is confusing is that the fuel surges at idle, or low load, but when under heavy load it's rock solid at about 39 psi.

                            Also, if the plugs were fouled, wouldn't it run like shit pretty much all of the time? I just took it to the store this morning, and got in it a little bit. Running like a raped ape now. It's just hard for me to believe that the plugs would cause what happened on the way home yesterday.

                              I bet you have a fuel pump that is out and the other one is going out. You need to get the car data logged to check the fuel pumps
