would a broken hood hinge

Cause the hood to over lap the fender on one side by a quarter inch and create a huge gap on the opposite side? This is a car that. Has taken a shot in the front but has been "repaired". I've notice the hood seems to have some play on one hinge with side to side movement. I'm having trouble getting the hood lined up. Tia

hinges are adjustable to some extent but I would look at the fenders first. if the trailing edge of the hood, the one that meets with the cowl, is as it should be it's most likely the fenders. of course this all relevant only if its been repaired properly.

...oh and yes, if it were broken it would do that also. but I've never seen one break.

The reason I ask is one hinge is really sturdy while the other has a lot of play in it. If I took the hood off the hinges and was able to get it to fit right without the hinges being attached, would thay hint at it being the hinges and not the Fenders?

it's possible. you can also remove the hinge from the car and inspect it. easier than you think.
