It did this before you went offroading?

If your caliper(s) was sticking then it would ride against the rotor making everything hotter than usual. This sounds like the caliper is working is sliding in and out freely. It almost sounds like it is coming back in a little too much, thus giving you the occasional "slam".

Worn out hoses will make for a squishy pedal. When you replace them go with braided lines. It is an improvement over new replacements and would be a significant improvement over factory stock ones.

The only thing you can do from here is to jack up the front end and see what is really happening.

It has done this before it went general lee, yes.

They get knocked back as the wheel rotates.

I don't have a pulsing pedal, but the rotors could still be warped out of the box. I could have them turned and see what gives.

To me, the caliper is pulling the pad back in, and moving too much like you said. From what? I have no idea!

Are the rubber isolators still on your caliper?

The rubber that goes on the back of the caliper bolt?

That's where it rides, but it stays on your caliper.

              They're there.

I can't think what else could cause this.

Any pictures or videos help solve the solution?

                It's worth a shot.

Make sure at some point in the video that you slowly get a good view all the way around the caliper. It would also help to see how everything reacts when you press the brake pedal.

Can you tell if the knock only comes from one side or is it both sides?

                  Pretty sure it's both.

I'll tear it down after work.

not sure how you do your brakes..
                      but
                      i had a similar situation.
when installing the rotor i didnt have the rotor sitting true,so i used 3 lugs to make sure the rotor was sitting flush and greased the bolts that ran thorough the caliper.

The ID on the drum on the axle flange?

The ridge that goes around the axle "face"?

Or where the axle and drum go together, (where a dust cap would be of it had bearings)

It's a stock fox brake system, the hub and rotor are 1 peice.

I'm not sure, I haven't ever changed them.

They have a ford stamping, but that doesn't mean anything.

I'll also add that the brake proportioning valve was leaking pressure out of the front seal, so I replaced it.

Problem was before and after the prop valve.

I say this because I've had a few people suggest the prop valve as a possible culprit.

Check valve in master cylinder leaking back through?
