  • Oil additives for high mileage engines

I have a 2001 Ranger, 2.5/5-speed that I bought new. I have always changed the oil religiously every 3000 miles, I've done all the services, filters, plugs & wires .

I recently rebuilt the suspension with new upper & lower ball joints, sway bar bushings & endlinks and new shocks. I also replaced all the hoses - both radiator & heater hoses. I even put in a nice JVC stereo, speakers, amp & 8" subwoofer.

The truck looks & drives like new, but it does now have 150,000 miles. I've wondered about oil additives for high mileage engines. It doesn't burn a drop of oil & runs strong (for what it is). I know some of the beaters I drove when I was younger benefitted from various oil additives.

Are any of these any good? I've considered Slick 50 High Mileage, Rislone, Marvel Mystery Oil, and others from CD2, Casite, Gold Eagle & Bardal. Opinions.........

I would not use any high mileage oil as the additives will cause more build up and/or cause a bunch to fall to pan and eventually clog oil pick up. The HM oils have tons of additives. Just keep using good quality oil. I prefer valvoline. Ive seen many penzoil and quaker state motors that have horrible sludge build up . As far as additives I would not add anything .

Those 2.5's are bullet proof. I would just keep doing the same thing you're doing and not worry about it.

I agree. If it runs fine and doesn't burn oil then just keep doin what you've been doin.

i would put anything in that isnt a lucas product, they are the ONLY one i trust, and ive sold the shit for years.

however, i wouldnt change your routine a bit till it starts leaking or burning. keep throwing those fl1a's at it and you will be good to go.

lucas diesel fuel additive reduces lubricity vs. straight diesel.

no way I'd pour that snake oil in my tank!

All additives are snake oil horseshit.

Don't you think if it was very effective, the big oil producers would have already started adding it anyways?

IMO all those additives are a bunch of crap.

oil companies know how to make good oil, problem is, the EPA won't let them sell it to us.
