Use one of these, undo the motor from the K-Member, and lift. Driver's side will drop down from the top, and you should be able to get the passenger side up from the bottom. Pull the starter to give you a little more room. Also, if you are running a stock starter, kiss it good bye with long tubes. The heat will bake it in no time.

It is still gonna be a bitch, and that is putting it mildly, but unless you know what you are doing with the K-Member and setting it back up and making sure it is square, I would avoid dropping the K.

        But that's just my opinion.

Right now I have stock headers and an off brand o/r h pipe.

I've always heard that long tubes with stock h/c/I isn't ideal, because you loose low end torque. But you gain that in top end 4k+ rpm.

My question is, what kind of track time mph change should I see?

I'm at 81.7 mph now at 8.40.. Slow as balls.

I got them mainly for when I do h/c/I where they will make the most power.

I have some big flowmasters on the car now, anyone have a suggestion on what muffler would sound better? I'm really getting tired of the stock/quiet sound.

            I'd love some spintechs
I wouldn't expect to lose much torque if they are 1 5/8 primary. You could even see a slight improvement in the mid range.

Not to say that you can't go too big, lol. I had an 85coupe with a stock '84 5.0 in it. With shorties and 2.5" exhaust it ran really well. I put a setup from one of my other cars on it (1&3/4" LT's w/ 3&1/2" collectors, 3"H pipe, 3" flow one chambers dumped). It was hilarious how much of a dog that exhaust made that car, while sounding like an earthquake/thunderstorm.

I don't really know what to expect. I know the car has mid sevens or better in it. Stock 5.0's are running 7.8x and my car makes better power, has 4.10's, is lighter, has dr's, and a bunch of suspension stuff. If I can hook and drive for anything, the car should have no issue with 7.5x's
i used to have the same car as u, i wouldn't go much over 400hp, i had a s trim, and same mods as u. those shortblocks suck, 425rwhp is a ticking time bomb

What power gain is typical vs stock headers?

Going from stock w/ off road h to:

Longtubes, off road x and spintech pro streets.

                I'm hoping it sounds badass.

It will sound obnoxiously ridiculously loud and annoying. And prolly sound like ass with stock motor. You'll pick up a little power though. Prolly more so accross the board not just peak and prolly not so much peak

WHAT??? Did you not understand. You will pick up power. Prolly more throughout the entire curve than just peak power. Not hard to understand.

You will gain peak hp, but not much. The larger percentage gain will be under the curve.

Good deal, that's what it's all about. Peak numbers are meaningless.

12 HP and 15ft lbs without a tune. Maybe 20hp and 25ftlbs with a good tune. Dyno tests are done at wot. Adaptive learning does not take place at wot. You will most likely lean out. Maybe that's a good thing or maybe it's a bad thing depending on your current wot AFR. My bet is that you will need to add more fuel. Pull the vacume line off the regulator at the track and see if the mph increases. If it does then get an adj regulator and keep going up until it slows down. Then get a tune to add more fuel and put the fp back to stock.
