  • Weak link of a t-45?

Is it just the input shaft? I see you can buy a 26spline for $379.

I have shift stops on my shifter so my forks should be ok correct?

Reverse does suck, but that doesn't bother me.

I'm worried about my tranny holding up to my power at the strip. I had heard that the weak link is the input shaft.

What does it cost to weld up the shift forks?

Screw welding the forks. The only way to beef those correctly is to replace with ones made from higher quality metals.

Those are cheap in comparison to the rest of the parts that need to be upgraded. Syncros, input shaft, bearings, and maybe even Stronger gears.

That being said, a t56 or tko may be your cheapest route.

I personally think the TKO gear ratios would run better, and a t56 6th gear is only useful for gas mileage (.63). < turd.

If youre looking for MPG you're doing it wrong.

Promotion says the t-45 will hold 400ftlbs with a 26 spline input shaft and new shift forks.

You'll be touching that when you go with meth and turning up the wick. Then whatcha gonna do? Shell out money for the transmission you should be saving up for now.

                I would put money in a T-5 before I would a T-45. I've had both opened up.

FWIW my stock t-45 survived at least 75 bottles running a 150 wet kit. It was well over 400 ft lbs. In fact, I can think of several members running close to or the same mods without any (driveline) issues except the need for a good clutch.

                    400ft lbs is chump.

With your set up, you should be fine.

If I were you, run it till it breaks. It should last fine unless you plan to launch the shit out of it, even then b head + centri does not = torque.

almost 600ftlbs on a t5 with a spec stg 3+. Broke 2 and the 3rd lasted as long as I had the car. It started whining a bit but other than that it was ok.

a lot of the fork problems come into play when you try to speed shift or bang gears hard. granny shifting will help that part last. Many many bottle went through a buddies t45, 4.30 gears, 5500-6k launches, finally broke a fork on the street one night trying to slam third into the dash board.

get a TKO and forget about it. I had one of the old TKOs and sure it was notchy and whiny as hell but it held on like a champ...until i missed a shift at WOT.
