  • AOD to 5 speed swap question

I know many here have done this swap on a fox body, and I'm a bit late to the party.

Is it possible to install the key release button on the steering column? Or would I need to change steering columns?

The goal is to make it appear as much like a factory 5 speed as possible.

This swap isnt too bad so far. I replaced the leaking heater core at the same time so I pulled the entire dash out. I think that really made the pedal swap easier.

A few little things you may already know...there's a bushing in the crank that needs to be a bearing for the 5 speed. The correct speedo cable is a little longer for the 5 speed, due to re-routing through a different hole in the firewall. The old one will work, though. The pig-tail from the 5 speed is necessary for reverse lights to work, and if memory is correct, the neutral safety switch is different(?). It's been over 10 years since I've done one, so I could be wrong. ;-)

And...good move with the heater core! It will save you from going back in. We did the same thing.

            Yeah, you'll need the pigtail.

Is the column out of an original 5speed car? I'd like to see if I can incorporate the button you push to release the key from the ignition. I appreciate the offer on the parts, but I'm almost finished with the swap. Just have to reassemble the interior.

By the way, how'd rhondas car turn out?

Pilot bearing installed, wiring harness from donor car installed, all plugs found and connected on the clutch switches. Ever put in the button on the steering column?

Got it. Trying to see if I can install the button on the bottom of the steering column, the one that releases the key to turn off the ignition.
