  • Methanol Injection?

What do I need to know about it? I'm looking at running it on my car. I've heard about people making their own kits, how effective it is, etc. Can you make your own kit? Is it worth it to buy one? How long does a gallon last?

a gallon lasts about a tank of gas. you can buy a used stage 2 snow kit that is boost referenced for around 200 used on corral forums. that is where i got mine, but then you need to have it tuned for the kit or else you won't see the power gains. the windshield washer res holds about half a gallon and that is what i use as my res.

be warned that with the 3.33 pulley and water/meth; you will be over 450whp which is where the stock internals start to fail.

I won't go 3.33 with meth. How much power gain are we talking?

depends on how aggressive the tuner is. 30-70 hp is not uncommon. the lower the boost the less of a power gain. you can also add their nitro-methane to the water methanol and pick up an extra 40-50hp

          Dang! But it's safer right?

Meth injection allows you to run more ignition timing which equates to more power. It's like running higher octane or similiar to an intercooler because it helps lower cylinder temps. Basic lord inject it under wide open. The disadvantage is that if it fails to work, you will have detonation which can/will jury the motor.

yeah, the increased octane of the water meth kits along with the increased cooling aspect leads to similar power gains and detonation control as using race gas or e85

I personally do not like running straight methanol. Methanol is a fuel, so in order to get the most out of the system, you need to pull some fuel out of your fuel maps. However, if for some reason your meth system stops working then your motor will run lean.

I ran a mix of meth and water, 80% water 20% meth worked best for my setup. Untuned, my old turbo 4 banger gained 15 whp when the system was spraying.

You can run more timing, run leaner air/fuel ratios, and you can run more boost.

I did a LOT of long distance trips with my old turbo 4 banger so I had a rather large 6 gallon tank in my trunk, which would last for about 5 or 6 tanks of gas.
Annoying people, one post at a time!

                  bingo.

i would get the low level indicator for $40 if you get the kit. it comes with led's so you know when the pump is working and when the water meth level is low.

I'm not worried about the power increase very much. Imrc's or a smaller pulley will do for that. I'm more worried about keeping my motor safe and cooling the intake charge. aka using it instead of an intercooler.

that is what i am doing as well. i just got a 3.33 pulley for my car too. i just didn't want to have to fab up piping for a front mount ic or pay 1k for the vortech aftercooler. if you just want the cooling effect just run the smallest nozzle so you won't have to pull fuel from the tune, or do what 91cavgt suggested and run a smaller percentage of methanol.

Exactly. that max cooler kit is rape. I'd like to see some hp, but I'd rather not take it over 425rw or so. I'll get it retuned.

another good thing to do is to relocate the IAT sensor into the boost pipe so your car is reading true air intake temps and not the lower temps it thinks it is getting when it is in the stock location before the blower.

Alkycontrol.com has a great kit & his support is top notch.
