    What is the easiest way to tell if my aftermarket balancer timing marks are correct?

    Buy or build a piston stop. Insert in #1 cyl rot motor count clockwise till it stops, mark balancer. Spin motor over clockwise till it stops, mark the balancer. Dead center of these two marks is true tdc.

        Do I set the piston stop before the piston comes all the way up? Or does it really matter?

          The further in the piston stop is the wider the area of the two marks will be . Closer is better IMO . Get the piston close to the top as possible while still stopping . Measure twice , mark once .
