  • f150 fml.. again

So, i was headed to work this morning..

jumped in the truck and let it warm up with the heater on (it's early and im a tropical people). I let it idle for a minute or so like usual and jumped on the highway.. my exit for loop 12 is just 3 miles away and as i was getting on i noticed that the heater was blowing ICE COLD AIR. fuck this.. so i turned it down, damn near off. About 2 minutes later i hear BING BING BING ""CHECK GUAGES"" light flashing.

pulled it over at a gas station and let it sit for a minute.. came back out and there was just a liiitle bit of fluid underneath. I started it back up and the temp was back at the halfway mark. I was just down the street from the shop, and a brotha really cant afford to be bein late so i limped it up to work. the temp crept to the 3/4 mile mark in the 1 mile or so til i got to work.

So i was in a meeting all day and came back out to the truck about 7 hours later. I could tell it had leaked fluid but it was all dried up. I limped it back to the gas station and added what seemed like gaaaalllons of water and a 1/4 jug of anti freeze. i could never get a full recovery in the resevoir under the hood (??) It would come up to about 1/4 and stay there no matter how much more water (maybe another 2 gallons, seriously) but it leaked no fluid as i was pouring it in...

it made it all the way home then with out "over heating" but it was puking fluid again by the time i got home.. and the check engine light came on..but i think the CEL is from me being tetarded and forgetting to put the radiator cap on when i first started the truck (??)

    any ideas?

    head gasket?

you almost never see oil mix with water on those engines. If it does mix, its not the hgs usually either.

you need to pressure test the system first

Some simple checks should tell you what is going on. Check your oil and if it's not going there, it has to be leaking out. If it is not leaking out, If you drive it too much and it is a head gasket, you could hydro lock your motor and do some real damage.

            Good luck

I have 5.4L block in my shop that came out of a Navigator. The engine was full of about 6 gallons of what looked like Chocolate pudding. I was told it may have a blown head gasget which I did not care I just wanted the block and 4v heads. Well turns out a Freeze plug behind the Timing chain cover came out and then I noticed in the intake valley there are 2 cracks about 4 inches long.

              Just some food for thought.

Flatbed it to the ford house. Or drain the oil and see if any water is in it. Just be ready for a shit ton of water so the typical drain pan is not gonna cut it.

leak is at the front of the front of the motor on the passenger side. I limped it home and just parked it. wont really have time to deal with it until the weekend, but all feedback is welcome.

The passenger side of the block I have is where the plug was gone and the block is cracked.

It's NEVER a good sign when you can't fill the radiator back up. That coolant is going somewhere, either inside or outside the engine. Check your oil, see if the level increased, or if it looks milky.

Is it running rough? Is there white smoke coming out of the tail pipe? There isn't much on the passenger front that can leak coolant on that engine. MAYBE the water pump draining on that side. Freeze plug could have bought the farm, but what is bugging me is the fact that the level won't come up in the reservoir and it wasn't leaking out. My money is on a cracked block, but I have no clue how you would have cracked it.
