  • question about a transmission for a 302

My brother went to the track last night and destoyed the t5 trans world class i beleive. Is there anyway to put a th400 to a 302 motor. He is building another car so he has this trans laying around. The trans is already built with a converter. What and where can i get something to mate the 302 and th400 up. Anyone please help..

    Easy.

Just need a sbf bellhousing for a th400.

You will also need a manual shifting valvebody, with your choice of some sort of shifter

I'm not 100% familar with mating ford engines to GM transmissions but, don't automatics have the bellhousing as part of the entire case?

I thought when doing this you use an adapter plate to convert the bolt pattern. I Also believe you have to use you a special flexplate/converter set up.

      Not 100% sure though.

Its a real common swap. The bellhousing is not integral to the tranny.

But yes, you do need a flex/and a th400 stall

Any aftermarket th400 stall will work.

        gotta love the th400. They'll hold 1000hp with a stock rebuild+manual valvebody

Quicktime RM9045 is what you need to make it work. Pm me if you need one. I am a Quicktime dealer and usually beat Summit/Jegs by 10%.

                    Agreed!

Most automatic trans missions bellhousings are part of the case. With the exception of the c4. Usually with the gm swaps the bellhousing is machined off or an aftermarket case like dedenbear or others is used. You can also use an adapter plate but then have to use a spacer or adapter to space the felxplate out. As well you need an adapter flexplate like a jw ultra wheel and possibly a torque converter snout adapter or custome made converter $$$$$$

If your brother was still using a t5 a c4 should be able to be built to handle anything he will give it and no special parts are needed , plus tey are much lighter and the c4 isn't as big of a power robber.

I looked at a guy's 400 on CL, and I clearly remember it having 6-7 bolts holding the bellhousing on the trans side.

Do they all come like this or do they have to be machined for it?

almost all GM transmissions have the belhousing and case integrated. You have to cut the belhousing off.

and they dont hold 1000hp with just a valve body change
