  • Oil Pressure

Ok... I am really getting frustrated... New 331 with a mellings high volume oil pump in a 7 qt pan. I get great oil pressure... 60-62 psi while idling and upwards of high 70's under high rpms... My issue is that I am pushing oil out the valve cover breather on the passenger side. More so than what a PCV could handle I think.

I have seen breathers with hoses that run down to the O2 sensor plugs through a one way check valve BUT putting out a fair amount of oil into the headers cant be good either.

I thought of oil restrictors but I am running a hydrolic cam....

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Brian

had that same problem with a new 306...I had 3 cylinders that had horrible ring seal..the rings never did seat(bad machine work on the block is what i figured) and was pressurizing the crankcase to the point of blowing the dip stick out under high rpm's

I would do a compression test/and leak down test to find out if you have a ring seal problem

it's a ring seal issue for sure. I've battled this problem on my DSS 306 from day one. breathers with lines running to exhaust is just a band-aid. IMO the only thing that will fix it is a ring job.

It's been covered, but my first thought was the rings as well.

Ring seal is more than is prob. correct. However I had the same issue and it was that the oil was not draining back from the head fast enough and was filling the valve cover.

Head gasket drain oil return hole was undersized.

                  Just an Idea.

                  And my experence.
