Thats using that term loosely don't ya think?
Yeah, I would call that gutted as well. That pretty much means that it's not a daily driver anymore.

seriously though, what a pita! i like pulling up, a/c blasting, chica in the passenger seat, radio on, windows (read: glass) up, sound deadner in tact, no missing sheet metal, etc. i know i am leaving some on the table, but thats the cost i'm willing to pay to enjoy driving it for longer then 7 seconds at a time.

just my two cents. just add more power/suspension.
Agreed. No way am I going to sacrifice comfort and looks just to get a few tenths off from a track time. I would be much more likely to just toss a turbo on and drive it that way.

Instead of trying to lighten the car just add some go fast MODs to the car.....Hell put the bottle on it and be done with it....You are making this way to difficult.....

There is 29lbs just under the roof skin. If you can tie in the cage to the a-pillar and B pillar, that is a TON of weight up high.

It's amazing how much you can get out of these cars if you are creative. I've seen SN95 AIX cars with 351 based motors at 2700lbs with the driver and fuel onboard. Granted, there was a ton of carbon on the car and lot's of metal gone, but it was light!

              But a "stock" motor? Damn...

Ditch the carpet and sound deadener, insulation under the interior panels, visors, dog bone, spare tire/jack, AC, and radio/speakers; then start replacing parts with lighter equivalents: seats (I saved 40+ lbs), hood, trunk lid, WHEELS, control arms, k-member, etc.. If you have the center console with the arm rest you can replace it with the delete panel (save 10 lbs).

I'm all for eschewing comfort for performance even with a stock motor, but ditching safety equipment like door bars and bumpers on a daily driver... especially when you have a history of wrecking...

Buy a 1760 pound Festiva, drop a 225 HP engine in it, and really embarrass people at the track.

I actually have an 87 Civic 2 door hatch that I am considering doing that to. Old engine is smoking, so I need to do something with it.

That was more so a joke, but.

Don't look for a few places to save 100lbs, look for several places to save an ounce, right? Lol

When it rained I put the drivers side back on. Also, the view is better with them off. It's nice to have the full window to view out of.

                                Door bars
                                Front and rear bumpers
Rear seat brace (this thing isn't supporting shit)
Packae tray (thing the rear speakers are bolted to)
Get rid of the quad shocks (install am control arms)
Pull seats out and use air hammer to pull up all the sound deadner
                                And a hole saw
                                Pull out ac case

That's about it for free weight.

Like said earlier coil overs, tubular a arms, get some kirkey seats, weld wheels, door panels, lexan blah blah blah
89 dove grey lx, turbo blowthrough
