  • Transmission/forged internals questions

Now that my car is less than a month away from finally being boosted, it's time to look at my next goals. Though Im going to try to take it easy on my
t-45, I realize that it might not last long with the boost. What are my options and cost of beefing it up, or buying a new one? As always I'm looking for the most cost efficent option.

Secondly this summer, I'd like to do forged internals so I can get this slobra out of the turd category. I know mmr has shortblocks, but what are my other options? Will a shop rebuild my motor? Cost?

    Thanks as always.

Find a 03-04 cobra short block or find some good used cobra internals.

I personally like the 3650, they can be had cheaper then the t56. The input shaft on the 3650 is suppose to be the weak link. But I've seen one get beat on with 470rwhp and 600rwhp and it lasted fine.

That would be the easy route.

03-04 shorblocks are shitty. By the time they have been pulled they have gone through hell.

        Dont buy someone's dog shit.

        Build it yourself.

            Sigh.

If the rods are fine and the pistons are fine, that's all you need.

That's what I was getting at, teskid over cast anyday.

What I meant was, get cobra rods (manley) and cobra pistons. You can get them used, just make sure they are fine and put new rings and call it a day.

If I were you, I'd find a mark 8 engine. Rebuild the lower end with parts of your choosing, get a 8 bolt crank. Get the 96-98 cobra cams. And reuse your stock intake.

              10:1 or higher period

Like ownage said, when building the short block bump the compression up.

Didn't think about the 03 04 cobra having low compression.

If you want to go fast cheap, get a 351 and swap in it.

T45 will last. Swap with a 3650 later on. I have a 98 cobra with 22k miles and I'm pulling the t45 to put a built 3650 I have laying around. Way better tranny.

The shafts are fine. Centris wont make the torque to break them.
