  • Motor oil in tranny

So I had my clutch cable adjusted by a shop after installing a new clutch and I asked them to refill the tranny fluid cause I lost quite a bit when the drive shaft came out. When I pick up the car the guys tells me he filled it with 10-30 motor oil I'm thinking this is baddd ju ju but is it?

not really. it is probably better than atf as far as its lubricating properties. i would drain it and refill it with AFT to be safe though. it shouldn't hurt it to much, if at all.

what year is the car? i know early 80's mustangs ran gear oil.

it might make it a little harder to shift when cold but shouldn't hurt it.

I use to run Mobile1 10 30 in my TKO I had and it use to work alot better. It shouldn't hurt it at all.

If its a T5, you really need to run atf in it. Motor oil is a little too thick to get under the gears and lubricate them properly especially in cold weather. In the summer, you can get away with going with a light weight motor oil in it in a pinch.

Fill it with mercon/dexron 3 . Tko and tremecs in general are a different animal with different friction coeffecients for the synchros. That's why they run synchro mesh etc. Big no no in a t5.
