  • 1989 5.0 check engine light on and off

ive got a 1989 coupe 5.0..the check engine light comes on when it idles for more than a few minutes...any ideas?

it goes off when u drive it...only come on when it idles for more than 2-3 minutes

its stock except for off road h-pipes...

ive only had the car for 6 months and driven less than 200 miles..

car drives and runs fine..just the light comes on..

was wondering if u know what it might be...

i replaced the injectors when i fist bought the car cause it sat for a long time.

    any help would be great

Let it idle in front of autozone till the light comes on and have them check it for free

can use either a test light or volt meter to run the codes. both methods are here

Yeah I was going to say, a jumper wire on your plug under the hood should flash your CEL, give you the code, and go from there. You can also run several diagnostics like cylinder balance test and such, with just a short piece of wire.

Clean the pins in the 2 large connectors on the back left side of the engine.

Muffrzr should be of some help with this, it sounds like a small vac leak to me. I would check all of those, they tend to dry rot over the years.

Just use a paperclip then count the cel flashes.
