    Any Soda Blasting recommendations?

    I have my Chevelle's body stripped all the way to the shell...ready to have it blasted and was wondering if anyone out here has recommendations for a good blasting service out in the Denton/Fort Worth area?

    We have a place literally about 5 miles from here, but the guy quoted me $700 which seems WAY steep....especially considering that the car is a convertible (no roof) and has no front clip on it either.

    Anyways...would appreciate any recommendations if any of you know a good place.

    Buy a gun and do it yourself. I'm serious, you can do it outside and the shit just washes away when you are done, unlike sand. the biggest thing is the time.

      Hmmm...I didn't even think about that. I actually already have a 50lb sand blasting unit, but I didn't want to use sand on the sheet metal, and my 60-gallon compressor has a hard time keeping up too. Maybe I should just see about getting some walnut shell material to use in that thing.

      Or to go with soda....you think maybe one of those cheap soda blasters from Harbor Freight would do it?

        I agree with Johhny. The soda blasting media is environment friendly so you cant get in trouble for using it and sweeping it up.

          yeah, i would buy a cheap harbor freight blaster. my buddy has one that I'm going to use on my nova

            Can you let me know how that works out for you? I've read reviews on the Harbor Freight soda blaster, not real convincing for me to buy it to strip my wheels.

              I too am looking at soda blasting my wheels. I know Eastwood has a conversion kit for potbelly blaster's that I'm going to look into.

                The only bad things I've read is that they clog due to water in the line. Just get a water separator/dryer

                  I've used soda in the past. I rented the equipment for StripCo and did my 49 Chevy pickup. I've also stripped urethane bumper covers with it using my portable blaster.

                  It works, it's not aggressive enough to damage the metal, glass, chrome and plastic.

                  But it's not very good at removing rust and you have to neutralize it with water which means you have to treat the flash rust.

                  Now the part I don't like. Make sure you get it ALL out of the car, cracks, crevices, pinch welds, everywhere. If not, in about a year, your paint will bubble.

                  Now, you may look into someone, or yourself, that uses Star Blast. It's an organic media, aggressive but wont warp your metal. You can but it at Northern too.
