  • Jeep People in here

We are going to pick up a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited on Saturday. This is the first jeep for us. Anything we should pay close attention to on inspection and test drive? It has 35,000 miles and the jeeps come with 100,000 powertrain warranty so I am not too worried about but would like to know of any certain things to look for.

    Thanks

If its got limited slip rear and locking front.

Ive seen them come with open differentials and those suck in the mud. Your 4 wheel drive is actually a two wheel. One front and one rear

That's what we've got. Has it been modified in anyway? Auto or manual?

I would take a creeper with you and roll around underneath it to see what kind of abuse the previous owner did to it.

I always steered clear of newer jeeps that had flaking exhaust pipes. That usually means it got stuck in the mud and stayed there for a little bit.

Expect it to feel like a turd. This new v6 does make decent torque for it's size, but it is horribly restricted in the exhaust manifold. Start putting back your pennies for longtube headers.

      I would suggest these.... http://www.rippmods.com/Header_Packa...r-7137-hsh.htm

They are the highest quality LT on the market for Jeeps.

The mods it has is a lift kit, 33" tires, and different front and rear bumpers. It is an Automatic ( will be the wifes daily). I am not a big fan of the wheels but she likes them and they can always be changed. According the car fax I believe all the mods were done by the dealership before being sold to the original owner. It is a one owner car with a clean car fax.

Check for transmission fluid leak at the cooler. There was a recall, but I can't recall specifics at the moment.

You could probably find out about it through a quick google search.

Definitely look underneath it. Looks good.

          Check the u-joints.

Thanks for the advice. Having the powertrain warranty helps but it is still a used vehicle.

There is a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty on the transmission cooler lines, but only if they leak fluid at the tube crimp joint.

Are they not covered under the 100,000 power train warranty since everything else on the tranny is?

She does know it's going to be a bumpy riding, gas sucking daily driver, right? Are y'all getting a decent deal on it?

The factory warranty is a 5 year, 100,000 limited power train warranty. It only covers material/workmanship defects, not abuse.

Yea, but she does not have to daily much. We put maybe 5000 miles a year on her vehicle. Compared to others it is an excellent deal. We are getting it for 23,000 and getting a decent amount on her trade in which is much more than we owe on it. We can not find anything close to it in price..... not even 2008 models.

That's not too terribly horrible, but I would personally keep looking. I gave $20,500 for my brand new 2010, with 453 test drive miles on it, in June. I found several lifted, hard top jeeps around here in the $21k-24k price range back in June, but when Peter's Jeep made me the deal they did, and gave me exactly what I wanted for my Expedition, there was no way I could say no.

Is yours 4 door or 2 door?

I can not find a single 4 door in the price range you listed. I found one for what we are paying but it was bottom of the line, manual windows, 2 wheel drive, etc.

Here is a brand new one similar to this one at Peter's Jeep for $38k. I know you can work deals but i doubt you could get that around the 25k mark.

"Unlimited" is the model name for the four door wrangler, and mine is the 4x4. I'm a jeep snob, so there is no room in this house for a 2x4. The only reason I even own an unlimited is so it can hold all five of us.
