  • Anybody try the Bosch Platinum Iridium Fusion plugs?

    Just farting around in walmart and saw these newer looking plugs. has a 4 prong design. I daily a mercedes and OE is the Bosch Platinum. I always check my plugs when I change oil to make sure they look good and mine are okay, but just wondering if people have any experience with these. they arent any more expensive than what I use now so i could be buying some in the future if they are alright.

        IMO the 2-3-4-6-9 what ever prong plugs are a gimmick. I think the ngk iridium's are about the best style/brand you can get.

          I always thought that the 4 prong set up was lame too. I've always used NGK V-power copper plugs but mercedes is homo about this stuff. the bosch plugs that comes with them is a single prong set up and it looks exactly like the iridium plugs but it is platinum.

            Electricity will always choose the path of least resistance. It won't arch on all 4 prongs at once. To me that sounds like BS to have more then one ground strap.

            The bocsh plugs are junky and the only plugs I'd ever put in my vehicle would be motorcraft, autolite, ngk or ac delco.

            Chrysler uses champion plugs I believe from the factory, but I'd throw ngk in there without question.

            Bosch is cheap, german cars say you must use them, well a spark plug is a spark plug and as long as the heat range is the same you'll be ok.

            Copper plugs tend up not have a high life span, but from what I've been told they offer a stronger spark.

            Platinum and iridium are coatings that make the plug last longer, thats it.

                I put the Autolite Double Plat. plugs in a few months ago which are a single ground strap design with a fat electrode. It runs fine but im wondering what the best is. I guess ill keep what is in here for now and check out ngk iridiums or some simple copper plugs in the future. It needs 16. :P

                    If I had the use of a dyno and a lab scope I love to do some testing to see which ones worked better. I really dont think any of them are going to make a difference when it comes to power or even that much of a difference in mpg. I think the biggest test is going to be longevity. Id love to see some results from some fleets that rack up mileage quickly.
                    I personally wont use champion unless I have to due to their lack of quality control over the years. Iv installed champions out of the box and they were bad. My best suggestion is to go with what the manufacture states(platinum, double platinum, iridium, etc) and stick with a single ground electrode plug.

                      I've seen the tips of theese fine wire plugs break off and ruin motors on more than one account. As far as performance you can't beat copper. Its all about the tranfer of electrons across the gap and copper is a much better conductor but they do wear faster due to being soft, platinum is a much harder metal and lasts much longer. They use these metals so they can advertise lower maintance costs. Its all a sales point. On brands I use what the oem plug brand. I have had many different cars some worst than others that will misfire like crazy if you use anything else.
