  • belt squeak mystery (FU@KING HELP)!

    00 5.3 silverado been through 3 belts

    heres what ive changed
    tensioner pulley
    idler pulley
    alternator
power steering pump pulley (the only pulley with a line where the black paint was barely missing)
water pump is good as it makes no noise when i spin it and tried the ole sand paper trick and also tried the redneck bar of soap.. well i cleaned all of that bullshit off with carb cleaner and put a new (expensive belt on it).. no matter what belt i put on it stays quiet for a few days then starts chirping and gets worse over time.. only thing left is the harmonic balancer and it doesnt seem to have any wobble... anyone else experienced the allmighty belt squeal of hell? other than that the truck runs perfect and when i pull the belt it looks perfect

      This!

Compressor trying to lock up or else it could be the pos a/c belt tensioner going weak.

Take a small dab (quarter size) of vaseline on a finger and press it into the grooves of the belt and start it up. You may have to do this twice since the belt is so long. Belt dressing and soap is probably the worst thing to do on serpentine belt. Fixed squeaky belts on at a Ford dealership all the time doing that.

no it only comes off and goes on one way (I would be shocked if it was mis aligned as it requires a pulley tool and i bought it just in case and even the oem one didnt look funky in the middle... if it was low on fluid wouldnt the squeaking/screeching get louder when i turn the wheel?

This happens on my 07 Jap truck all the time. Just a squeak. Believe it or not, it is the stamp on the back of the belt with the part numbers/logo on the serpentine. Sand this shit off and see if it helps. Cured mine.

If you have a good eye, you can see the numbers/logo go over the pulley and time the squeak with the contact of the pulley.

Strangest shit I have seen. I use a die grinder with a wire brush to remove the logo. At $50.00 per belt, I got tired of trying new belts.

                        Ok.............................

                        Lets get down to biz..

Replaced serpentine tensioner, idler pulley, P.S. pulley A/C belt and tensioner... Only thing left is the harmonic balancer which has the normal 2 pc lsx wobble (very minimal).. also put another 105 amp alternator on for a short period of time...

Is there anyone here who is a belt specialist? I will pay you for your time and parts... It's kinda embarrasing driving around squealing everywhere!

This is fucking frustrating and im on belt # 4-5 cant remember.... that many belts in one year...

                        I need a belt guru!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
