  • My Mach 1 is F**ked up!! UPDATED with more Pics

Well a couple months or so ago my Mach decided to lock the motor. Now i've finally gotten around to tearing it down and rebuilding it. Got a few Questions now and im sure i'll a few more along the way. Sorry about the size of the pics, i couldnt resize them for the life of me.

    Pretty self explantory...

Couple pics of what I pulled out of the oil pan.... Any idea to where they came from????

A seperate problem.... but another problem i get to fix. No wonder it was making noise.

Where do I Begin??? Seriously. Is there a right and wrong way to take these off? Anything i need to look for, take off in order, or pay close attention to?

Oh I forgot my biggest question. Ive loosened all of the main caps but I CAN'T get the off! I've tried tapping the back and forth with no success, any suggestions or is there something i'm missing?

4v mod-motor = probably not a great platform to learn about engine assembly

Oh I agree... I am not assembling the motor, just taking it apart to evaluate whats wrong with it and what I need to buy. Then it goes to a machine shop and builder.

Jack screws in the side of the block, there are two aspects to it, a long screw, then the jack screw itself takes an allen wrench and it's left hand thread.

the broken pieces look like the back side of one of the chain guides. The jack screws in the side of the block are not allens though (unless it has an mmr kit or similar), they are 12mm I think, its been a while

The bolt is a 12mm, the jackscrew is an allen wrench. Remember, the bolt goes through the jackscrew into the main cap, then the JS itself unscrews.

I wouldn't be jacking with the timing chains and shit like that unless i had some prior knowledge of it, or a guide to use. Way too easy to mess something up.

I bought a Ford CD that gave step by step details about removing everything up top before pulling the heads off.

Turn the motor to TDC, mark the location of the timing marks on the cams and the chains. Once you pull the chains off the cams, they're gonna want to rotate and you'll need to do something to stop that from happening so the valves don't by-chance smack into a piston.

I'd just take it down to your machine shop as is, have them disassemble it, tell you what is needed, and have them reassemble it.

I dont remember seeing an allen, but there are lots of variations between 2 bolt,4 bolt etc...

youre supposed to use a block spreader too...

not all castings have that, he would have to post a pic of the mains to determine

to clarify...99+ Teksids did NOT use these (and have a 9mm cross-bolt)
