I need the one that holds the crank and the one that hods the cams. Im working on a 2001 Ranger with a 2.3 and I didnt know that the cam/crank gears were interference fit. Now Iv got a guys truck tore down and I cant get it back together until I get those tools.

Is the 2.3 in the ranger different from the 2.3 in the mustang? When I put a new belt on my 93 mustang, I just lined up the dots on the cam gear and the crank gear. The dots faced each other.

i believe hes speaking of a late model dohc, as earlier 2.3 were not interference engines

I have all of the factory tools for 2.3s if you are talking about the SOHC Pinto engines.

It's a 2.3l 4 cyl in a 2001 Ranger. It has a chain. From what I can gather there are no timing marks at all. The cam sprockets and crank gear are not groved or splined so once you loosen them the move. I could guess but Id rather not. I did mark the cams before I took it apart but there was no way to mark the crank.

These are what the tools look like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Massi...-/350453878226
I can probably just use a pice of flat bar to hld the cams but I need that pin that holds the crank in one spot and the pin that lines up the harmonic balancer.

Well after reading some forums I found a guy who just used a piece of 1/4 flat bar and he just used a regular bolt for the crank stop tool.

This is how I've done it. Older 2.0 ztec is the same way but belt. I made the tools for them too.
