  • Is this the infamous head tick?

I have an 03 mach engine in my 04 GT and as of recently this is what happened to it... This is not my vehicle but sounds exactly the same with no loss of oil pressure and no loss of power.

sounds just like a friends(OH II) car a 2002 mustang gt. His car shot a spark-plug out of the head and melted the coil-pack. the noise was coming from the spring in the coil-pack arcing against the fuel rail. Lucky for him the threads in the head were still good. Spark-plug went right back in and was on the road with a new coil-pack.

If the sound is coming from the drivers side cylinder 7 then it probably is the tick. More of an annoyance then anything from what I have heard and power will not drop off.

It sounds bad, does die off on sudden stops too. But turns right on and idles perfectly.

It definitely sounds like the infamous head tick, my 04 termy does it on the driver side too, not as bad as in the video..but it is very annoying, yet another reason when I do a turbo setup I will be yanking and selling the stock motor.

You sure what you are hearing isn't injectors? My 80# are noisy as hell. To the op...keep an eye on oil pressure to make sure it isn't a rod tapping. Could also be a rocker is about to pop off. Before my car blew up a few days prior I was having problems keeping it running as I would slow down and come to stops. Car felt strong so I didn't think too much about it...thought bad gas. Then 1 day I started it up and the whole car shook like crazy and dropped a cylinder. I ended up dropping a few valve seats and popped a rocker of which is why it was down a cylinder.

I vent torn it apart to look for myself yet, but it could be the injectors. But like most it's always the 8th cylinder because ofthe popular coolant issue with the 03's. Mine is an 04 that was built late 03, so who knows. I'm just ready to get it back on the road feeling new again soon.

First 2.3 had 2 different rotors installed so it wouldn't make boost correctly
                            2nd 2.3 screamed when I was running 19#
My current is quiet inside and somewhat loud outside. None screamed as loud as my ported eaton

Gotcha. I remember that time we ran and you walked the hell out of me with the first 2.3 and thought you were joking about it being quiet, weird but now understandable. I'm looking forward to making some good numbers with the turbos, Manny said bring it whenever and we will get started on it.
