  • HELP all lights went out

When driving home. All lights and my radio and everything cut out while driving. 89 Gt. It did not change the way it handled. Any idea where to start? Thanks

Headlight switch, wiring, or multifunction switch(turn signal/wiper lever).

The wiring is under rated from the factory - over time the heat starts melting the plugs/wiring - it goes faster when the fog lights are used.

        Oh, check the fuses too.

EDIT - didn't pay attention when reading the first time that the radio went out too.

I'm wondering if it is a fuse under the hood. I never heard a pop on the inside

maybe check for a fusible link coming off the starter solenoid.

Here is what I have done so far. Found the number 1 fuse (stop/hazard speed control high mount lamp) blown and fuse 15 (fog lamps) blown. Replaced both still nothing. Tried new headlight switch from Autozone. Nothing. I guess the fuse link at starter is next. Would it be attached to the top bolt (closest to engine block) or bottom bolt (closest to the ground)????

Radio doesn't work, headlights dont work, high beams only work when u pull them back not when u want to put forward and lock in. Turn signal works as well. Such a wires problem

I suspect a bad (separating) ignition switch in the column. Not the key switch (what you put your key into) but the actual ignition switch itself. They are notorious for coming apart in '80s/90s Fords.

I just had the ignition switch replaced two weeks ago at the dealership for the warranty recall back in 89 for free

Might want to check up and see if they do good work.

(insert link to local shop / transmission thread)
