  • Timing

My kid has an 88 Coupe with a lightly modded 5.0. Trick Flow Heads, B-cam, intake, etc. How much timing do they like, the compression is stock 9.1 to 1 I believe. I know on my Carbed 385 with 11 to 1 it likes 33 degree's on pump gas.

He has it set in the stock position on crank and dizzy.

Thanks, don't know much about the 5 liters and there likes and dislikes.

You'll hear different opinions. Stock is supposed to be 10 degrees. You can run about 15* to 16* with aluminum heads on 93 octane, but it can vary. I'm at 14* with a stock cam and aluminum heads, and it does fine. I'm not sure I'm really "gaining" anything, and the guy at Gearheads suggested I dial it back to factory setting.

its going to be a test and tune thing. I run 10* degrees with 36* of total timing. i hear 14* degrees is normally the way to go.

Just like said above Mike, they'll all vary some. I'd bet it's gonna like the 14* range though with the auto in it. (don't forget to adjust timing with the spout out)
