Don't get it: ABS light on and keep popping cig. fuses

Wife's 2002 escape just went over 102,000 miles. Her ABS light comes on after about 1 mile in the car and she keeps popping her Cigarette lighter fuse and the power accessory fuse (the other cig lighter below the main one on the dash)

I replaced the fuses less than a week ago and they just went out again.

I know there is a recall specifically for the 2002 Escapes ABS system, but could these be interelated somehow?

I still need to call in and give them my VIN # to see if the recall has been done on this vehicle.

And actually, what really is interesting is that they are not on the same fuse.

The power acc. one is a 20 amp fuse in the engine fuse box. The Cig Lighter is a 10 or 15 amp in the interior fuse box. Completely different, yet they both keep blowing out.

2002 Ford Escape Defect Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ANTILOCK BRAKES (ABS), THE ABS MODULE CONNECTOR MAY HAVE MISSING OR DISLODGED WIRE SEALS. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW CONTAMINATION TO ENTER THE MODULE CONNECTOR, CREATING A POTENTIAL FOR AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.


Defect Consequence:
AN ELECTRICAL SHORT MIGHT CAUSE AN ABS MALFUNCTION THAT WOULD ILLUMINATE THE ABS WARNING LIGHT, AND IN SOME CASES, THE MODULE MAY OVERHEAT RESULTING IN BURNING ODOR, SMOKE, AND/OR FIRE. THIS CONDITION COULD OCCUR EITHER WHEN THE VEHICLE IGNITION SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION OR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED.


Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR TO THE ABS MODULE FOR MISSING OR DISLODGED WIRE SEALS, AND REPAIR OR REPLACE THE HARNESS CONNECTOR AS APPROPRIATE. THE DEALER WILL ALSO INSPECT THE CONNECTOR ON THE ABS MODULE AND REPLACE IT IF IT IS FOUND TO BE CORRODED OR DAMAGED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 23, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

How can I approach a dealership to look at it for free even though they have already done the recall? What am I looking at for them to find the problem, but not fix it. I can fix it, but I just need to know what is causing this issue.

if the connector is melted you can call ford customer service and complain that it was not right and they may reopen the recall on it so it can be done free of charge. your not going to get any thing for free at the dealership esp if it was looked at in 07. have you pulled the abs code yet?

That was my next step, I need to get my hands on my Dad's OBDII reader though, so it might be next week before I see him again. I was just really being thrown a curve ball with the fuses popping. All this started when the ABS light came on.

I just wanted to update this thread mainly for Google search results (where I did a lot of my research to fix this)

First off...SCREW FORD DEALERSHIPS...love their cars but Parts & Service at Grapevine ford wanted $114.99 just to read the codes. Oreilly's did it for FREE.

Codes for my 2002 Escape ABS and E-Brake light came back as:

C1145 - Right Front ABS Sensor (Electrical/Static) (Bad sensor)
C1234 - ABS Outlet Valve Coil LR Circuit Short To Ground. (Shorts out somewhere)
B1676 - Battery voltage out of range.

Bought the FR wheel speed sensor from Oreilly's for $72 after tax (no core charge).

Replacement took about 20 minutes (just traced the old one, a bolt at a time) and I started the car...abs light is gone now

Took it out on a wet rainy night and slammed the brakes from about 45mph. ABS kicked in a pulsed, not ABS warning...kept me from skidding.

It's been gone for 96 hours now with over 100 miles put on the Escape...I am calling this one done.

Actual Cost: $72.51

Fuses kept popping due to wife using a cheap chinese made car charger for her cell phone that had a short in it. Once I tossed it and told her to use her Sprint one, the fuses stayed.
