  • vortech question 99-04

i have a non intercooled vortech v2 on my 00' gt. my motor is shot and i'm swapping in a truck motor while i rebuild the old one. my vortech has the stock pulley which is 3.6" i think.

i am curious on what it takes to swap to a smaller pulley. i know the 99's don't have the vortech FMU so is there a chip or something installed (got the car with the kit on it)? if so will it need a reflash with a smaller pulley?

next question. lets assume it will need a reflash do add fuel and pull timing, which it probably will. what if i didn't get it tuned and sprayed water methanol? i have a snow kit i can throw on there.

i know that water meth and no retune isn't the safest way to go but i really don't give a shit about the truck motor going in and its not a daily. it might get driven once or twice a week when the weather is nice.

what year is your car? the reason i ask is the truck motors were windsors which were the same as the 99-00 GT's...but in 01 the motors were Romeos. the differences are mainly the valve cover bolts...the windsor has more and i think they also had 8 bolt cranks.

so this swap will work but these are things to be aware of.

also i wouldnt swap the pulley without a good tune...at a minimum you will need more fuel.
with my S-trim 01 GT i went from a 3.6 to a 3.48 and gained zero peak boost, but it came into boost faster and at a lower rpm which was fine with me.

i have the swap covered i am just curious about the vortech. the truck motor is a romeo out of an 05' it is a complete motor so i have everything. i am just swapping the intake and accessories from the mustang.

the reason i am asking about swapping pulleys is because i have a snow stage 2 kit and that would compensate for the lack of fuel and reduce the chance of detonation without having to have dyno tune.

oh and can a tuner reflash a vortech chip? or would i have so send it in?

Call up Vortech, they could most likely lead you in the right direction. They were always pretty helpful when I needed advice with anything.

Or call up HPP or Gearheads, I'm sure Manny or Travis would know something.
