A friend of mine wants to get his first car back on the road, it is a 66 coupe with a 200 six. The complete drive train is gone and he does not want to v8 it, he just wants it to be close to stock. I found a 250 six in a 70 fairlane complete from the fan,all the brackets for a/c and alt and the transmission for a good price. My question is will it fit, anyone done or seen this swap. any help or advise would be helpful thanks

A 250 is a good option for replacing the 200. You get a better flowing head and the intake isn't cast as part of the head.
Problems you will run into, the 250 is taller and wider. You can slot the holes in the mounts and reuse them but you may run into clearance problems with the air cleaner.
Second, the 250 uses a V8 bell, the 200 uses a their own with a high mount starter. So you will need a new bell/trans.
Other than that you will need to modify the carb linkage and the pulleys and WP are longer so radiator clearance could be an issue.
I have a complete 200 long block I just pulled out of a 66 if he wants to go that route. But it needs a ring job.

i saw your swap and thought about asking about your motor but I still need all the parts that are missing, that is why i am hoping this complete motor will work. Do you think the a/c and alt brackets would interchange on the two motors? We could use your 200 and I can get the rest from the 250, that would only leave me a bellhousing short. Your rear end swap is nice we are going to do that on a 68 we are restoring(dual overhead 4.6 and the 4r70w),we are hoping we find the rear ends tomorrow.

if I went with the 200 I would need a bellhousing, I have 2 small block bolt pattern ones already. the starter on the 200 is in a different place, but I am thinking of a lot of items I am still missing ( flywheel, carb ,exhaust )the little things you dont think of until you reach for them and they are not there. The 250 might have some problems to hammer out but at least I have everything there to work with. I found a site that said to use the maverick mounts they are lower still than notching the mustang mounts and only require drilling one mounting hole. These buddy jobs can be a PAIN.
