  • Which Thermostat

I hear various opinions on what thermostat to run in a 93 stroker motor. I have Trickflow heads, Anderson cam, ported GT 40 upper and lower intake and aluminum flywheel The car is a full street driven car with AC and all power. It has 3:73's and a five speed. Right now I am running a Ford factory OEM thermostat (192 degrees) . My question is this......Can I run a 180 degree thermostat and still be streetable ? I am not running a tune or chip. I have a stock computer. The car runs fine, does not get hot on the street with the AC on. I do notice that the car is crisper and seems to pull better when the heat gauge is at 180. As I have heard, a 180 stat really gets you about 190 degrees. Ford mechanics say that if you run a 180 stat that the computer will not allow the fuel system to go into closed loop. Will I just be a little rich at 180 degrees, or will the computer go crazy and not allow the car to run properly . I am set at about 13 degrees advance on timing and only get a ping at low RPM in 5th gear. It just seems to do better at 180 degrees. What do you all think ?

another vote for 180....if you are thinking 160, it's too cold.

Yes, that was what I was thinking (the 180). I read that with a 180 you really get about 190 which is right on the OEM unit. Thanks for the replys.
