But dumber if I didn't ask. I just picked up 3 ton jackstands to get all 4 tires off the ground on my fox. That means each has a 3 ton capacity so this is more than safe to get up under the car right? Tia

Hadn't yet. I have to look and take into consideration any clearance I made need for any bolts that have to come out. When I blew this 302 with nitrous I pulled everything but the short block and sold it to fund my 351 and that was my first pulling a cam, heads, intake etc. All that's holding the short block I believe is motor mounts and tranny so I thought I'd take a stab at before asking for help. I have to get it out so I can have the bay painted since the motor is almost ready.

3 ton stands are more than enough. If you are running subframe connectors, put a stand on each end of them. I do that all the time. You can lift one whole side at a time, just do it in little steps, and put the jack just about in the middle of the subframe connector.

if you dont have SFCs, well, you are on your own because I have never had to deal with a car that did not have them.

Here are a couple pics that hopefully will help. I could not find any good pics of the jack stands on the back, but if you notice the placement of the front ones on the subframe connectors, basically the same placement for the back.

NOT a dumb question. You'll be fine, but my "pucker factor" is about a 9.5 while I'm under it. I'm a chickenshit from way back, due to past events. ;-)

Yeah I'm apparantly a chicken shit for natural causes cause I'm right there with u and have not had any issues. So I'll try not to be a thread whore and start another one for one question but what's the best bet for getting the 2 bellhousing bolts off that are on the side. The one right above the starter and the same on the opposite side. Motormounts are unbolted, starter is off, I have a floor jack under the tranny and the only thing stop this motor from coming out is those 2 bolts.

Long extension maybe? Or if you can reach your hand up there with a box end wrench, or maybe try coming from the top. You said it is short blocked so I would assume you have the heads off and exhaust out?

Another question....Did you think about maybe pulling the motor and tranny in one shot?
