What did your AFR look like on the dyno? The 351 in my Lightning is 8.9:1-9.0:1, GT40 Intake, AFR 165 heads, stock mustang HO cam, 1.6 RR's. I laid down just a shade under 300 to the rear wheels with 368 ftlbs. Hp peak at 4800 and tq peak at 3900. I have an E4OD monster tranny that sucks up at least 22-25% of the rear wheel hp. Something isn't right. Either the carb isn't tuned correctly, way too rich, way too lean, secondaries aren't operating properly, primary throttle blades aren't opening fully, or valve float. Look into the problem closer. You should make at least 35-50 more rwhp than I do.

Key there is stock cam with very little overlap. An engine is an air pump. a cam with a lot of overlap requires a lot of piston speed in order to make use of having both valves open for long periods of time. So an engine that can't fill the cylinders and doesn't squeeze the fill hard enough makes for low effiency (dynamic compression). I will say you need a mechanical sec carb on that setup. Most vac sec carbs can only handle up to 224 deg of duration. These carbs open the secondaries from amount of air flowing through the carb which creates a vacume to pull open the sec.89 dove grey lx, turbo blowthrough

Your combo is completely mis-matched. I would suggest bumping the compression to 10.5 or 11:1, going with a cam that has a lot less duration, something in the 232/240 ish range and .600 ish lift. With that combo and a dialed in carb, you will easily be well over 400 rwhp. Also what condition are your springs in?

I think something is off a little . May be the secondary not opening . My 351 with tfs 170's and a stg 1 cam & aod did almost the exact same # as yours on the dyno on a 100 degree day after driving 40 minutes in rush hour traffic . It also pulled past 5700 . I would think with the 5 speed and bigger cam you would have put more down and pulled higher .Big Rooster Racing

Bump that compression to around 10.5-1 for starters. I run right at 11-1 on 93 octane in my street car with a 393W and it runs fine @ 32 degrees total.

I would think it feels like a pig with all that carb & those 3.25's.
I bet you could put a 550cfm carb on it & wake it up some.
Since you're plucking it & going topping it off w/ EFI, I double check the cam application.
