Ok I am not sure I want to go crazy on mods on this 02 but I would like to ride in someones truck that has the basics. Intake, Big muffler, and the 60/80 tune. Just curious if its worth the money and how well I will notice a difference. Also a lot of guys say better gas mileage with the 80 tune. If this is true and more hp and better MPG then I am probably game. I know I want all the gauges first but really just mapping the rest out. The truck is no slouch now compared to the 95 but like everyone else I have a problem keeping things stock. LOL I do want to keep it as reliable as I can though.

I don't own one currently but have had a few 7.3s....first thing I will tell you is that you will get better info on them at www.Thedieselstop.com than you likely will here. Intake and exhaust arent going to help performance much and really more so for helping to keep EGTs down, by moving air through it more rapidly....which is a good thing bc 7.3 trucks do tend to build more EGTs than other diesels....way more than any of the Cummins that I've owned. My advice is to go with a good daily tune from someone like Tymar....and don't turn it up too much. You will notice a nice difference in pep and MPG.
A lot of people talk shit on them but I loved mine....have had 3 of them over the years and they were hands down the best overall trucks Ive owned. The aren't the quickest....but they were Dependable and great for towing.70' Chevelle RagTop

I had a DPtuners 80 hp tune on my 03 7.3. I just had the cheap cat diesel air filter and a 4" exhaust system. I think I had less than $600 in everything.
Night and day difference. The torque off a stand still was retarded. It seemed more powerful out of the hole than my old 6.0 and the throttle response was better than my tuned 6.0 or 6.4. I really enjoyed the truck after the mods, but the EGT's would get hot quickly.
Now for the problems, I had 37" tires on 18" wheels, and the 4r100 hated the combo of the tune and rotational weight. It would blow through the convertor taking off under heavy throttle with the big tires. With the stock tires there wasn't a problem. If the transmission is stock and you do tow heavy with a tune you will be replacing it very soon. I put the truck back to 100% stock before I sold it, exhaust, lift and all.

From what I gather the exhaust on mine is good except the muffler. Ford extreme duty air filter, two tunes, and the big muffler is how I was gonna go and the gauges of course.
This one is 2wd, I was trying to stay away from 4x4 for a daily. Just gonna run 265's on it and do some grill and bumper upgrades. I dont tow to big of loads, just a car every now and again and ATV's.Whos your Daddy?

My truck has a 100hp Flash on it, but the Engine is old and tired so It wouldnt be a good basis to compare against.Whos your Daddy?

All you need is a big cone air filter, 5inch straight pipe, and the 80hp tune. For anymore power you need different injectors and some other mods.
You can get up to 20-21 with a 2 wheel drive truck. My 4x4 on 35's with just a the mods meantioned above plus a set of my cousins injectors and 120hp tune with a little extra timing, is gettin between 22-24 depending on how you drive it.

I had an 03 F350 with the 7.3 and 35"s and all I did was 4" from the turbo back, AFE intake and a 10K mod. I was pretty impressed with them all and I had about 500.00 in it all and most was the exhaust. Oh and I was getting low to mid 20's with the 35" mudd terrains on the highway.

Sorry to hijacking but how reliable are the 7.3's with an auto if you're not towing. Been thinking about getting a new ride and a diesel 4x4 is one of the options. Would rather have a manual, but there pretty hard to find in good shape and not a base level truck.

Jason, I have a 7.3 with a Motorcraft AIS, Walker BTM, and an old Evolution tuner it you to ride in one to see. It's a 2wd cc, felt a lot quicker with the stock wheels on it, but when I lowered it I went with 20's.
I an on getting rid of the Evo and going with a SCT.
Stay simple amd it will be reliable, mine is goin on 230k miles and thankfully sti going strong.
Changing oil & filter and fuel filter is key on these. I tow about a 5k lbs. trailer for work everyday as well.
Pro88LX, 7.3's are very reliable, if you can find a clean one that has been well maintained. Mine was ome owner and had towed all it life. That's what they were made for so I had no problem buying it. Bought it with 207k miles has 230 now. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.2 Chronicles 7:14

Yes! Stock the 7.3's are sleds, if you want we can set it to stock go for a ride, then set it to race and go for a ride? Or we can roll in your then hop in mine so you can see the difference? I tried Extreme mode once and it was sweet, but since I tow I didn't want to keep it there 24/7.2 Chronicles 7:14
