  • AFR 205's & header sizes

AFR 205's have larger exhaust ports than their 185 brother.

What's the smallest header you could run on this head without mitigating the heads effectiveness to breathe?

For the 'early Bronco' aftermarket, nobody makes a header larger than 1 5/8", but there are people stroking out 351's to 427 & then sticking a 205 head on it. Just curious as to what point that head is too much head, if the complementing components are not available off the shelf.

It's not for my Bronco, I'm content with the 185's. There are others who build 408-427ci motors & top them off w/ the 205, only to choke it with a 1 5/8" header. Just curious if the 205 w/ a 1 5/8" header is a waste of the head's potential.

Custom headers are an option, but that's not the argument.

I would use nothing smaller than a 1 3/4" header. Mac makes a 1 3/4" shorty header for a Mustang that might work for you guys.

The shorties have to be cut b/c they dump right in to the frame rail.
