  • Engine hoist/ cherry picker....which one?

Whatever you want to call it... I'm about to buy one and would like to know who has what and how it's performed? Goods and bads? Price?

It won't be used a bunch so I don't need a 1000 dollar hoist! 200-300 bucks or so?

I've got an AC Delco one that folds up into a small package. Works great and very sturdy. Used it 7-8 times with no problems.

This one here should be all you need. I use mine regularly with no problems. The only thing I'd do if I were to do it differently would be to get one that 1) goes higher for ease of use, and 2) was on a rail, to make it easier to move the engine in and out. It's far easier to move the engine than it is the whole car.

I picked up a Torin that folds upright for storage. Very solid, similar to the Central Hydraulics in the Harbor Freight link above. I got it off Craigslist for $125. It had been used once and was about 18 months old. that's a good deal on the one at Harbor Freight.

My biggest recommendation is to get one that folds up...takes up so much less room.

...also, take some time to look around used if you aren't in a hurry....I always seem to see good deals on CL, newspaper, etc. I actually bought mine from a guy off of pro-touring.com....$80 and it was about a $300 one new. This tends to be one of those things that a lot of guys buy, use once, and then get tired of seeing it sit and take up space in the garage.
