          Go to Ford or
Chebby and tell them you need a diff cover gasket for a specific car and see what you get. Wont be any type of material. Will be a very expensive tube of either black or grey RTV.

That's still part of the bellhousing or an adapter, not part of the tranny case itself. Look at the clutch fork dust cover - that opening comes all the way to the back of the part you're talking about where the RTV is.

The technical name for it is the transmission front adapter, it's not just an adapter, its required to keep everything inside the transmission, if you ever rebuild a T56, you pull the case off of the front in order to get the mainshaft and clustershaft out.

My original point was the fact that someone has been inside the tranny, RTV IS required there or else it would be dumping ATF out of the tranny, kind of scary thats all, but much less humoring than it would be if they RTV'd the bellhousing

it looks like a two piece bell-housing. Or a bell plus an adapter.

A t56 has an adapter plate. It was manufactured to be interchangable. A gm t56 has a different adapter plate as does a viper, but for the most part the internals are interchangable. Hence a viper spec t56. The major difference between them is the clutch fork location (3 5 or 7 o'clock IIRC) and the depth it will install the input shaft.

Im sure ford or chevy would make sure to install all the differential cover bolts. I can live without the gasket being replaced, but when im throwing gear oil out of a hole because its missing bolt it makes the shop look bad.
